The museum was founded by the extraordinary efforts of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, and with the great contribution of the prime minister at that time, the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the historical buildings at Gülhane Park were restored. The development of the museum, where over 700 objects are exhibited, is maintained by adding new objects each year.

The museum presents comprehensively inventions and discoveries which Muslim scientists gave as a gift to humanity throughout the centuries, the evolution of the history of science in its different fields, as well as exhibiting innovations in particular fields. The objects which are exhibited attractively and in a systematic order, cover the fields of astronomy, geography, navigation, timekeeping, geometry, optics, medicine, chemistry, mineralogy, physics, architecture, instruments and military technology. They show the great inventions and discoveries of the Islamic sciences and present to the visitors the fact that those inventions and discoveries reached Europe and were received and assimilated there. And thus it demonstrates that the history of sciences is a unified whole. The Istanbul Museum for the History of Science and Technology in Islam at Gülhane Park is open between 09:00-16:00 every day.
